Getting my dad to take his health seriously had been an uphill battle for us.
It turns out he had self-recorded his blood pressure that morning and he decided not to tell my mom that it was dangerously sky high, probably because he knew she'd rush him to the hospital and he didn't want to go.

Feb 3, 2026 20:12That is just devastating. I am so incredibly sorry.
It’s so hard. My dad is 86 and a narcissist. My mom is 85, had a stroke over two years ago and recently had to have a severely infected hip implant removed. She was borderline septic but “didn’t want to bother anyone”.🤦🏻♀️
My dad would’ve died of sepsis from a botched colonoscopy if my mom hadn’t realized he was burning up right before bed. She dragged him to the ER and he was hospitalized for two weeks.
This is to say: Dads are hard to look after. I’m very, very sorry for your loss.
My mom is like this, she nearly died in 2015 because she was horribly sick but didn't tell anyone.
I'm so sorry about your dad.
Oh no, I'm so sorry. Why does it seem like so many of our parents/grandparents are like this?
I think a lot of it ties into a complete lack of mental health care for them, and especially for men.
My condolences for your loss and for the utterly frustrating situation. I've had people in my life without enough regard for their health (see: grandparent who fell 20 feet off a ladder), but your dad's choice is on an entirely different level. Good God.
He struggled with chronic pain and depression, and his home remedies often left him less alert than usual. It was a dangerous mix.
Oh honey I'm so sorry
The kind of shit you wish you could kick their ass about...
My father went through a scary thing that nearly resulted in his death that was also entirely preventable. I've never been so fucking angry at him in my life. How dare you cut and run as we were finally talking??
Yeah, I'm really having a lot of struggle with this. I'm also pushing it back, because my mom needs me to be stable. I'll have to cry on the phone with you later
Oh Kiki. Thinking of you.
ahh. yeah. Some people are like that. health makes older people tired.
That's awful, Kiki, I'm so sorry. 🫂
I'm so sorry.
I'm so sorry, Kiki.
