- The most annoying thing about writing Greek myth retellings is the WELL, ACTUALLY crowd. I recognize I write fan-fic-y versions of these myths, but SHOCKINGLY, that requires research? And any choices I make to divert from the most commonly held myths are intentional choices?????????
- Parlor Room on Dropout is such a delight of a show. A bunch of friends/comedians/actors playing goofy ass games and eating snacks in the middle? Perfection. Exactly what I want from my media.
- Tapping out at 1k words. There's no way I can run today, which means there's a solid chance I'm going to fuck up my program schedule. I'm just trying to prep my ADHD like "No, we didn't fail, we don't have to quit working out for 6 months, we can just keep going when we feel better, I promise..."
- Been divorced like 15 years and counting and I still have my ex's ssn memorized because he was military and they use that shit for everything (and the kids continue to because of insurance).
- I will work for 30 min and if I'm still dying at the end of that 30 min, I will just call it a day, do some admin, and watch Murderbot or something.
- I made the mistake of starting to listen to some of the transcripts of the Supreme Court over birthright citizenship* and, damn, it's really hard to focus on writing this messy mob book now. *Could also substitute this bit for whatever the crisis for the hour is this year.
- Please tell me they're not serious about considering a reality show to fast-track immigration status. We're 10 seconds away from # murdertrending by Gretchen McNeil becoming nonfic, JFC.
- Anywho, if you've tried and failed to read The Huntsman on Netgalley because of the formatting, they're feeding a new version through, so it should be updated and easier to read soon! I am VERY excited for this one!

- I'm still mad about the ARC I got for a HIGHLY anticipated read for me--like literally one of my most anticipated reads of the year--and the formatting was so fucked up, it was unreadable. Lines broken weirdly. Words cut in half. Completely shoves you out of the story.

- I don't always send a blurb for a book that I really, REALLY loved to the editor, but when I do, I sure as shit wrote the wrong title. If you need me, I'll be in my corner of shame.

- I'm in the weird place where nothing is on fire professionally with deadlines, so doing a lot of dreaming about Bonkers s5 and what we want to do there. We've been iterating since s1, and I think s4 will be closest to where we're headed in the future, but that means we have to pick a theme/etc...
- If we could not bring the "hey, author, I'm in your mentions, saying how I don't like your book" to Bluesky, that would be super great.
- I finished an ARC This Kingdom Will Not Kill Me by Ilona Andrews. Spend the last 15% cackling so hard, the Mr asked me what was wrong. Screaming, crying, throwing up over how much I enjoyed this book. Will GREATLY please longtime readers, and also be a great intro to them for new readers.
- I'm playing Split Fiction with my 9yo right now and enjoying the hell out of it. Will def look at It Takes Two next!
- Reposted by Katee RobertI don't 'refuse to use' AI, I just don't use AI; in the same way that I don't shoplift, or plagiarise other people's books - it requires no effort of will, it's just not something I would think of doing

- Reposted by Katee RobertThis is the right approach — speak to them as you would an especially stupid child, spell out their crimes and your contempt clearly.
- Maybe we could save money as a country if we weren't driving jets into the ocean?????
- I bought some cotton-linen yarn and I'm going to knit a tank top for summer. I've never worked with this particular blend, so that will be interesting, but it's a tank top. Surely I can finish this without wandering off??? Going to knit the Moonless Tank: shop.jaqcieslak.com/b/ba5Wu

- I'm still thinking about the Rolling Stone article about A I causing psychotic breaks in people.
- Got a highly anticipate ARC and the formatting in the epub is WEIRD. Dropping lines, sometimes mid-word. I'm so tired of this shit. If I can format books myself with ease, why can't publishers do it for advanced copies? (this wasn't a PDF, which has its own problems and I refuse to read anymore)
- Doing deadline math. Technically this book isn't due until July, but I have edits coming in June and I don't have to double-deadline if at all possible. Just need to hit 2500 words on weekdays through the end of this month and I have it covered.

- Imagine if, instead of gutting dozens of agencies that keep us alive, we just... I dunno...taxed the rich their fair share. I'm not even talking a rich tax (though I support one). I'm talking just like... paying their fair share. Going after back taxes of the rich, etc.

- I spent all weekend reading and playing video games and just being a little guy potato and it was exactly what I needed. Split Fiction is SO FUN. Me and Youngest have been playing the hell out of it. FINALLY fought my way to Gold in Marvel Rivals. Read Red City (enjoyed it!). Now...back to drafting.
- I finished Red City this morning. VERY STRONG Romeo + Juliet vibes. Cool fucking world of crime syndicate alchemists. Kind of a slow-roll story that starts with the protagonists are kids and follows them through their early 20s. Can't wait to see what comes next! Out in Oct!

- This cover is SO FREAKING CUTE!!!
- I finished Blood Over Bright Haven last night and I'll be thinking about that book for the rest of my life. Sometimes you read something that just has IMPACT that it'll take ages to work through fully. What a phenomenal book.

- I think my writing process is changing, and I don't know how to feel about that. What do you mean I'm having the deep desire to plot out the rest of this book??????
- I honestly wish I could leave Threads behind, but it's such a reader hub and some of my favorite people are specifically there, and I don't want to lose that.
- Our finance people actually CALLED the Mr yesterday to reassure him. I just have to LOLSOB because, my guy, you can't say shit like that when we don't know what that derange MFer will do next. Bro is single-handedly annihilating people's retirement savings. That's not something you can plan around.
- ESP when ICE often refuses to provide identifying details or literally any credentials when they're kidnapping people off the street. It's a pretty normal fucking response to step in.

- Like I need pro-A I folks to stop for 30 seconds and think about the implications of having generated something like this, in the voice of someone who didn't consent to have their work stolen, and how it can be used incorrectly as evidence of that person's thoughts or stances.
- Shoutout to the person on TT who made dozens of people spin out because they said that, to a 1000yo fae/monster/eldritch being, humans don't pass the Harkness test.

- If I can settle down and actually read, the way I'm about to inhale some fantasy books now that I've turned mine in. Reading Our Vicious Oaths right now. Next up is The Serpent Called Mercy.
