- Reposted by Louise SeamsterThey’ve been on this for a minute. More teaching + post tenure review (and contracts) plus ai supercharged productivity surveillance tools also makes professors more vulnerable to student evals, which gives admin more power to fire you. That’s the plan.

- Reposted by Louise SeamsterThe amount of observers that have been detained today in the city already that I’ve seen videos of is really spooky. It’s very clear that ice is now just straight up targeting observers in an effort to quash people watching them. It’s also clear that they are absolutely keeping databases of observers

- I am trying and failing to find the article from 2 months ago that adds one more terrifying layer: about the successful altering of a facial recognition database such that the photos no longer “read” as someone’s face to a computer, although they look unchanged to a person.

Despite some critiques from left that it’s all repackaged “nimby bullshit” (as I’ve been told), I have seen organic multiracial coalitions on this issue. - Reposted by Louise SeamsterThank you, Victor. I spent a few weeks on this. As usual, it’s always a negotiation with length. So a few other bon mots: 1. The admin has issued DOJ guidance to challenge state laws that would regulate AI www.wired.com/story/ai-sup...

- Reposted by Louise SeamsterSuch an important read from @tressiemcphd.bsky.social as she describes how all of this goes beyond protecting one’s data; it’s about protecting your rights from an authoritarian regime hellbent to demolish democracy.

- Reposted by Louise SeamsterThis is absolutely insane: DHS claims the right to subpoena your emails and to send investigators to your house. In this case, because a retiree sent the mildest possible criticism to a prosecutor. No judges involved. www.washingtonpost.com/investigatio...

- this racist claim is part of a long history of blaming declining infrastructure on local black officials’ poor decisionmaking and overspending. in many cases the perceptions “overspending” or “corruption” have hinged on local/Black hiring and contracting requirements.
- and while doing that, please also explore whether any board or governing body of a university that signs the “compact”will have breached same, by agreeing that any public funding (or private gift!) could be retroactively withdrawn if the university’s found "out of compliance" re compact
- Reposted by Louise SeamsterThere is a case to be made that any board of a university that signed an agreement that required paying a fee has breached their fiduciary duty and I think somebody should explore it
