Johannes Pilic
Postdoc at ETH Zurich in the Kleele lab. I'm interested in mitochondria, microscopy and systems biology.

- Finally moved to #Bluesky and happy to share our recent work! We found that hexokinase 1 rapidly forms rings around #mitochondria during energy stress to regulate mitochondrial fission: www.cell.com/molecular-ce... For a quick summary of our findings, check out the comment section.

- Visualizing mitochondrial membrane proteins in live cells can be challenging due to the size of fluorescent protein tags (~240 residues). In our recent paper, we show how a small tetracysteine tag (6 residues) enables accurate visualization of VDAC1 in live cells. journals.plos.org/plosone/arti...
- How do #mitochondria decide when to divide or fuse? I’ve always thought mtDNA played a key role in this process, so I was very surprised by this finding: The loss of mtDNA does not affect mitochondrial fission and fusion rates. www.molbiolcell.org/doi/10.1091/...
