- “While the timing of this information is difficult, I do not believe these were hidden maliciously, but are instead a relic of the old government system of accounting," Council President Jamie Dunphy said.

- It’s worth noting that this march was during the day and was entirely peaceful. It’s also worth noting that by and large, the protests that endure police violence under the cover of night are also entirely peaceful.

- Philosophically, I’m operating as if extrajudicial killings, home arrests of dissidents and journalists are inevitable and increasingly common as the future morphs into now—unless! Unless the people win. And if I’m dead already, I see no better way to use borrowed time than to boldly smash fascism.

- Portland announced that it will extend the hours of its overnight shelter sites due to cold weather this weekend. Instead of people being told to leave at 6 am, they’ll now be able to stay until 8 am. Hours vary, the earliest shelter opens at 7 pm. Details here: www.portland.gov/shelter-serv...

- Reposted by Jeremiah HaydenMinneapolis and Saint Paul have basically mobilized into a war economy of mutual aid and non-violent defense. I’ve never seen anything like it, even during Covid. People who barely vote are guarding their schools from ICE and doing the shopping for neighbors in hiding.
- Wait. So, the US DOJ is reportedly investigating Tim Walz and Jacob Frey for alleged conspiracy to impede immigration efforts in Minneapolis, and Tim Walz responded by calling in the National Guard to quell the protestors standing up to federal agents and their violent tactics? Is that right?
- I’m on a lot of bad lists, I’m sure, but I’m also on this good one from @gregpak.net alongside a bunch of other great journos. Welcome to Bsky
- A cool side benefit of X being down is that we may not see so many screenshots of X posts on Bluesky today.
- “Seconds later, the three men run back to the unmarked SUV and drive away. The camera captured audible laughter from one of the men.”

- City Councilor Jamie Dunphy, from East Portland’s district 1, elected council president, breaking a multiple-day stalemate over a week of meetings. More tk
- Reposted by Jeremiah HaydenThe Mercury has obtained a series of images of group messages that show racist, sexist, and homophobic tropes used by a local developer and other local conservative political activists during a council president election. Readers may find this content offensive.

- @streetroots.bsky.social published two stories last year as a public service in case you find yourself in or around a protest where Portland Police are present. Hopefully this gives rough guidance to know what they’re supposed to do so officers can be held accountable if they violate directives. 1/2

- Worth noting that people’s “gang affiliation” is often that they are in danger for trying to leave them.

- Portland city council was abruptly recessed moments ago and councilors are now in a meeting. High tensions but no one is talking in an official capacity at the moment. Will keep you posted.

- Mayor Wilson sent an email to city councilors Tuesday saying the city will begin enforcing 120-day stay limits at its alternative shelter sites. The rules are intended to incentivize people into using the emergency shelter system to obtain housing, despite the lack of available affordable housing.
- “Immediately after the interview finished.” This is wild. Local police arrest demonstrator for… marching in a street.
- Easily overlooked facet of this protest is that organized groups from various points of a left-ish spectrum showed up in solidarity against US expansion in Venezuela despite frequent disagreements. From outside w/o knowledge of Portland, you’d think this was one usual bloc. It’s not, but war is war.
