One of the qualms I have with 'movie-like games' is that some directors behind them often betray their disdain of the medium. They want to be movie directors SO badly. Gameplay, which is a core mechanic and element, is secondary. They only wish for the cinephile posse to finally notice them.
I often think about Jonathan Cooper's posts about TLOU2, that the studio ran out of seasoned game animators because its reputation was so bad and thus had to hire film folks who had to be taught how to put games together.
