Go after the illegal bikes/electric motorcycles and don't forget about those cars that actually kill almost 40,000 Americans a year.

At the time of Maher’s detention, disability advocates warned that taking away Wael’s caregiver put his life at risk. Wael died on Friday at age 30. ICE caused his death. - Very proud to see the main thesis work of the intrepid Dr. Mohammad Pourhosseinzadeh come out in @pnas.org today! In this paper, Mohammad assesses how crosstalk between insulin-secreting beta and somatostatin-secreting delta cells in the islet actually happens, in near real-time. A quick thread 1/10
- We have known for a long time that insulin secretion from pancreatic beta cells and somatostatin secretion from their neighboring delta cells is synchronized and therefore coordinated. Our question was how this coordination is achieved. 2/10
- Based on optogenetic experiments, it had been suggested that beta cells and delta cells are connected via gap junctions of similar conductance as those between beta cells. Here we show that it is a little more complicated, and interesting. 3/10
-
View full threadUnderstanding these mechanisms of local crosstalk matters, because they break down quickly in diabetes. This failure to communicate between islet cell types makes diabetes worse. 10/10
