- I keep my own wee list of books that are ‘Not Yet Published’. Love it when they roll around and, excitingly, tomorrow will bring us @rutgerbregman.com’s new book Moral Ambition which could be the perfect book for these times. Is there a (German) word for this ‘book anticipation’ feeling? 💙📚
- Working out of hours GP today and called up to sort an ambulance for a patient needing admission. Was asked: are they ‘bariatric’? Took me a moment to realise what was meant - not helped by me immediately thinking ‘barometric’.
- Hannah Fry on the BBC’s One Show just telling a story about a chicken - she was quick to reassure us that the chicken not hurt in any way. Heaven forfend. We kill something like 1.1 billion chickens every year in the UK. We really do have some weird social norms around animals.

- Just trialled for 2 weeks muting all mentions of Trump/Musk/Vance in text/tags - can highly recommend it. Can keep current via other sources - but being intentional and shutting off the firehose here has stopped other content getting drowned out. Thanks @devezer.bsky.social for suggesting!

- Is it churlish to harrumph a bit after this gift? What we need is land reform/restoration based on “well-crafted public policy” (as @andy-wightman.bsky.social notes at the foot of this piece). Waiting for ultra-high-worth bods to grow a conscience and gift it to the likes of SWT ain’t the answer.
