- People say Hogmanay in Edinburgh is the best, but I tend to prefer New Years Day where I was able to cycle round a park with an extinct volcano in the morning and mess around on a near deserted beach in the afternoon.

- Today I'm excited to being talking at the Edinburgh Neuroscience Afternoon about the real cost of academic publishing and big deals. Spoiler: they are expensive and not really transformative.

- I think it’s wild that 4 people per day in the UK die on the road, but that’s tolerated for people’s convenience. Any other situation causing this level of fatality would be cracked down hard.
