People who advocate for electing the president by popular really are saying that federalism shouldn't matter - largely because they like the way that big cities would control elections. (For now.) This is dumb, especially now, when federalism has been a godsend.

Nov 22, 2025 01:35I do think it’s worth noting that NO state uses anything like the electoral college to run its gubernatorial election. (Your point, I presume.) Maybe the reason is that it’s a ridiculous system to use, for any election.
Until 1962 Georgia governors were elected by the "County Unit " system which was similar to the electoral college. The S Ct held it unconstitutional once the one-person one-vote interpretation of the 14th amendment had been put into place.
