“Dutch rider opens up about losing faith in Visma-Lease a Bike’s training methods…”(dnlbenson on Dylan Van Baarle)
Ineos and TVL have been 2 of the most dominant teams of the last 15 years. Even last year Visma finished 2nd in UCI.
If they aren’t good enough for you, the problem is you.
Jan 9, 2026 15:46Dylan once said in his podcast that he used to train different than his teammates also at Ineos/Sky. He preferred long days and high intensity, as he had the feeling that worked best for him. At Visma they have tried a different approach probably. But his lack in results is due to all his crashes 😬
Indeed. He will turn 34 this spring, and has been injured over the last couple of years. Nobody’s fault, just life as a pro athlete. Not sure what he thinks Soudal or anyone else can do about it.
I agree.
And just because some riders don't like Visma's training methods doesn't make them wrong.
It just means Visma needs to spend a little extra time making sure new riders really understand what they're getting into.
I'm sure EF's Laissez-faire methods aren't for everyone either.
It’s worth remembering that DVB left Ineos specifically *because* of their progressive training and culture. But like many riders, age and injuries have taken a toll on him and he isn’t what he was 3 or 4 years ago. That’s just life, not TVL.
Kind of surprising those that Uijtdebroeks had something similar to say… and same IIRC regarding some of the feelings behind Tom Dumoulin’s retirement?
If it was just a once-off I’d agree.

'Visma's philosophy doesn't work for everyone': Why Cian Uijtdebroeks broke his contract again to join Movistar
The Belgian is set to ride for his third different team in 2026 before the age of 23 – but the ambition remains the same: to become a Grand Tour star.
Well, Cian left because he wants top GC billing.
TD retired because he lost the passion.
Meanwhile, youngsters like Jonas, Olav, Brennan, and NVH, plus vets like MJ, CL, and Campy have thrived.
I just don’t think this is about the team.
