Benjamin Anderson
PhD Student @ University of Edinburgh: Vermont, Northern Frontier, American Revolution, Localism🌲⛰️. Spare time: wandering with Sully the dug, stressing myself out with the Scotland national team 🏴, learning to deal with AuDHD.

- I've never contacted my MP until today. @teamlabouruk.bsky.social decision to push through cuts on welfare and push vulnerable people into or further into poverty is simply deplorable. @rthonwesstreeting.bsky.social comments yesterday were disgusting, and he is stigmatising mental health.

- Good of the US to follow Britain and also take a sledgehammer to their own economy.

- Reposted by Benjamin AndersonThe crisis in British higher education is acute + painful right now. If you are in it you already know this, but for those who are not I want to share what is going on. As strikes start at Newcastle Uni + others will doubtless follow, now is a time for solidarity + resistance
- Well worth a listen on the crisis in UK and US universities from @whiskeyrebelpod.bsky.social Q. Does class contribute to uni decline with potentially more lower class students finding it harder to go becos of the costs involved i.e. acc., living, etc. open.spotify.com/episode/2xtQ...

- One of the biggest problems with ADHD is the inability to concentrate, which has made it increasingly difficult for me to read a book, especially when doing a PhD makes me feel guilty for not doing PhD work! So, I've set myself a challenge to read one book a month and to use this for accountability!
- Reposted by Benjamin AndersonRunning thread of people trying to normalize the sieg heil. It's not an "Elon gesture", it's not autism, it's not your heart going out, it's not parody or trolling. It's fucking despicable. Don't ever let this shit become normal. Fuck any excuse given, there is none. Zero tolerance. 1. Elon Musk

- 11 year old nephew entered the room the other day to tell me that Palestinian people were "not nice people" and Donald Trump is "a good man." Jesus Christ. Fair to say he won't be playing his PS5 for a while.
- Globalisation isn't the problem, ya fanny. It's the hoarding of extreme wealth by a minority, who control the media, the modes of production, and government. That's the problem. Immigrants & transgender people aren't the problem, they are the scapegoats to keep people from looking up at the 1%.
- Sully off lead today for the first time in Falkland. Just the 4 different kinds of poo he rolled in behind my back 🤦♂️. Fresh air helping to overcome my current burnout and to stimulate thoughts to get around this writer's block on localism and the Dominion of New Enfland #AmWriting #PhDLife

- Going back to try and use a web page that I'm referencing from the National Diplomacy Museum and finding it has disappeared off the face of the Earth. What a riot.

On tiny dog figurines found buried under a palace in Nineveh, Iraq are inscriptions that seem to be names. dan rigiššu “loud is his bark” munaššiku gārîšu “biter of his foe” mušēṣi lemnūti “expeller of evil”

- Reposted by Benjamin AndersonAuschwitz was at the end of a long process. It did not start from gas chambers. This hatred was gradually developed by humans. From ideas, words, stereotypes & prejudice through legal exclusion, dehumanization & escalating violence... to systematic and industrial murder. Auschwitz took time.

- Fortunate enough to visit Auschwitz and I recommend everybody experiences it. I was walking around Camp 2 when a massive thunderstorm hit, whilst everyone else ran for cover I (stupidly) remained out in the open and found the whole place deserted. It was the most harrowing moment of my life.
- That'll be a western power casually advocating ethnic cleansing. Post-WW2 order well and truly dead and buried.
