- Although the news coming from the US is generally depressing, I look forward to seeing the formal notification to the UNSG of the US withdrawing from the Copenhagen Accord, Cancun Agreements, Chile-Madrid Time for Action, Glasgow Climate Pact, and so forth soon.
- I'm very proud that Patrick Toussaint successfully defended his doctoral thesis at the UEF Law School today on the extent to which international law can help climate victims in finding solutions to loss & damage. Thx to Prof. Margaretha Wewerinke-Singh for acting as his opponent!

- An unexpected change indeed. I think the different treatment of the NCQG decision v the UAE Dialogue decision in this regard is telling of their relative political importance for the Presidency.
- India saying they cannot accept the goal just set in the NCQG decision, and opposes adoption of the decision - raising once again questions about procedures in the UNFCCC process See also this great post by Joanna Depledge: www.carbonbrief.org/guest-post-t...

- So far absent from the draft #COP29 decisions released in the past hour: The decision on the Just Transition Work Programme. I wonder if this has anything to do with this: www.theguardian.com/environment/...
- And now also the new draft decision on the NCQG, suggesting 300 bn/year from 2035, but also launching a "Baku to Belém Roadmap to 1.3T" Also a gentle request to increase grant financing to SIDS/LDCs Will this be acceptable to Parties? We will soon find out.
- New texts are coming in from #COP29. No reference to fossil fuels in draft decision on UAE dialogue on implementing the global stocktake outcomes, only reference to relevant para 28 (which includes "transitioning away from fossil fuels", but "transitional fuels" (i.e. gas) are explicitly mentioned
- Article 6.2 and 6.4 decisions adopted at #COP29, ending long-standing negotiations. The main issues of the NCQG and GST follow-up remain to be decided, however. Draft decision texts can be found here: unfccc.int/event/cma-6?...
