- Reposted by Maggie McAlindenYour reminder: In 1995 Labor introduced Sect 18C of the Racial Discrimination Act, making it unlawful to offend, insult, humiliate or intimidate due to race, colour, or national or ethnic origin. Those who opposed this are now attacking Albanese for ‘allowing’ antisemitism.

- "This promise of an AI future, is really just a collective anxiety that wealthy people have about how well they're gonna be able to control us in the future." - @tressiemcphd.bsky.social with an absolute mic drop moment about AI bullshit. Incredible words. Listen to all of it!

- Reposted by Maggie McAlindenYou can do this right now: Think of a person who wrote a paper you love, whose work influenced or helped you, or has made your professional life better. Search up their email address. Shoot them a quick email of thanks. It means so, so much. This is a rough time of year, share some joy.

- Reposted by Maggie McAlindenFraming GenAI as a battle between teachers and students is a red herring. Students and educators are on the same side. The real opposition are the data extraction firms and brokerages and their allies among the managerial class.

- Reposted by Maggie McAlindenChatbots — LLMs — do not know facts and are not designed to be able to accurately answer factual questions. They are designed to find and mimic patterns of words, probabilistically. When they’re “right” it’s because correct things are often written down, so those patterns are frequent. That’s all.
