Sarabeth Berman
CEO of American Journalism Project @theajp.bsky.social, fighting for the future of local news. Mom, married to @eosnos.bsky.social.
- One thing to add to @sarabethb.bsky.social's op-ed is that many of the new wave local newsrooms are determined to do a better job for the whole community than most of what happened in the past. We don't want to restore a wholly imagined golden age.
- The closing of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette is disheartening. But it doesn’t have to mean the end of #localnews. In @nytimes.com today, I write about trusted, independent newsrooms rising to meet community needs across the country. www.nytimes.com/2026/01/18/o...
- Thanks to @sarabethb.bsky.social and @theajp.bsky.social for supporting local news efforts around the country and building public awareness about the progress that is being made. @deepsouthtoday.org is proud to be part of the AJP portfolio of nonprofit newsrooms. www.nytimes.com/2026/01/18/o...
- @sarabethb.bsky.social: “This is the year we recognize that community-rooted journalism is the foundation for any hope of rebuilding trust in news.” www.niemanlab.org/2025/12/well...

- In her opening remarks at AJPalooza, @sarabethb.bsky.social highlighted local journalism’s role in strengthening the “Middle Ring,” the network of people who aren’t your family or strangers. “Local journalism doesn’t just preserve memory, it strengthens civic life.” www.cjr.org/analysis/loc...
- “Local news needs to be regarded as a public good. This is an opportunity for philanthropy to step in.” @sarabethb.bsky.social from @theajp.bsky.social at #ISOJ2025 panel on creating funds to finance journalism.

- Very sorry to hear of the passing of Rutherford Chang, highly original conceptual artist, familiar to Asia hands, e.g. in 2008, he cut out 4,000 ink-dot sketches from the WSJ and reassembled them into a yearbook-like piece of art. A study of priorities and power. www.nytimes.com/2025/02/09/a...
