- 10yrs ago Carrigan & colleagues showed that only African apes (but not other primates, including orangutans) have a single mutation in their ADH4 gene that makes them 40x (!) more efficient at metabolizing alcohol www.pnas.org/doi/abs/10.1... 2/15
