- It's been a rough year personally (and brutal this week), but good on the writing front. I'm glad to close it out with something positive: a review of my last collection of stories. HAUNTING, HEARTFELT, AND IMAGINATIVE. www.goodreads.com/review/show/...

- I didn't read a lot of #TomStoppard, but I did read Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead in high school, and it was incredibly funny. I went back to it several times (and much later saw the film) and always loved it. www.theguardian.com/stage/2025/n...

- Whoever runs for US president, from whatever party, I want their platform to be: - Rebuild a bureaucracy of non-partisan career officials - Start to rebuild trust in government - Prosecution decisions made by career officials on objective criteria. Neither 'look forward' nor 'prosecute my enemies'
- I also don't want to hear either side ever say anything about 'fake news', personal insults, nor how big or small any crowd was. Who gives a damn? For once, let's focus on policy based on facts supported by data and logic. That still leaves a _lot_ of room for policy differences.
- My entire life, I've heard that #SocialSecurity will run out exactly when I come eligible.* And we still haven't fixed it. It's amazing our political system could ignore such a big problem for so long. *I recognize that it's much more nuanced than this. www.axios.com/2025/11/29/s...
- Happily, the lesson for me was to assume Social Security would not be there for me, as it seems it may not be. But not everyone's path in life made that possible. We still have a few years if we're just smart enough to _act_. Little sign of that intelligence or courage so far.
- Hegseth added “...Biden...preferred the kid gloves approach, allowing...people...to flood our communities with drugs and violence. "Trump is set to pardon a former Honduran president...sentenced...for drug trafficking" Maybe have lunch sometime, guys?

- Did I tell you about my latest story? It's short, on PodCastle, and about choices! Read or listen!
- My latest story is up @podcastle.org ! You can read my flash story, "The Only Map is Memory" along with shorts by David McGuire and Courtney Floyd. podcastle.org/2025/11/25/p... This is, astoundingly, my 12th story published this year, far outstripping any previous year.
- My latest rejector loved the title. Now, all I need to do is write a new story to go under it. :-}
- Scored once again with a title (but not the story). What I need is a market that just takes titles. Or a collaborator - I'll do the 5 word title, you do the 5,000 word story. Split everything 50/50.

- #OregonCoast helicopter moved for ICE detention. Facility on hold, "But the longer response times from Coos County or Astoria to an ocean accident mean help will likely not arrive in time to help those stranded in our cold waters." Still, what's a couple of lives worth if you can also hurt others?
- For the record, that's a quote from local legislator David Gomberg, who is against both the helicopter move and the ICE facility (as many locals appear to be).

- From my perspective, we have a very easy solution that works in much of the rest of the world - variants on single payer / public option / Medicare for all. I'm counting the days (and hoping for continued health) until I'm 65.
