- Today's writing sees our heroes mopping up the blood and shit left by someone else's drama. I didn't plan that as a metaphor for anything, but the more I look at it, the more I think it should be.

- Today's writing includes the start of the story I spent yesterday planning - a disfunctional team of cleaners doing Die Hard on a spaceship, with support from a sentient slime mould. This is going to be fun.

- By pure coincidence, today's writing is the outline for a scifi novel set in the same universe as the newly released novella. It's nice that all the excitement gets to pour in the same direction.
- New book day, and I already got a lovely review from the Womble! "All That Is In The Earth is a novella that shifts shape and direction several times and asks the reader some much more interesting questions than you would initially expect."

- OUT TOMORROW! My new scifi novella, All That Is In The Earth. Deadly disease, shambling monsters, & a bewildered scientist trying to survive alongside corporate soldiers & a friendly cultist. Life, death, & a sprinkling of soil science. What more could you want? andrewknighton.com/all-that-is-...

- Today's writing is mostly pitches to do more writing, the endless cycle of selling myself. On the one hand, I hate it. On the other hand, it's better than the alternatives. Time to go smarten up that resume...

- Made me laugh out loud, then take notes for future arguments. I didn't expect AI's lack of bowel movements to become a tool we wield against it, but here you go.

- An excellent piece for those interested in how we define genre & what those attempts at definition do.
- I promised ducks, quacking: well! @chloroformtea.bsky.social (not a duck) provides Thursday's essay on knowing genre when you see it. "We need a more expansive approach to any attempt at definition today. The genre can and plainly does sit alongside other genres which operate on different axes."

- We don't need "AI" in education, we need education about "AI". It's everywhere, & its outputs look convincing enough that even otherwise smart people don't understand what they're really getting, how to critique it, how to spot what it gets wrong. They buy the sales pitch as truth.

- Saw one of these sharing the street with a squirrel earlier. I give it a month before the rodents of Leeds raid the plastic treasure fleet, crack open their lids, devour their cargo, & ride them around the city like a band of furry privateers.

- Back from climbing. I need to get better at pushing with my legs instead of pulling with my arms, as the latter is exhausting & counterproductive, & I know in theory how to do better. This is probably a metaphor for something about writing, but I'm too tired to work it out.
- This is a heartbreaking book at times, & if you're engaged with British politics then I think it's as close to a must-read as you can get. Not theorising or presenting big political ideas, but showing the reality of lives kicked down the hole of austerity.
- Today's writing features a murder mystery, sinister surveillance technology, & something that I haven't dreamed up yet because "write this month's flash fiction" was an annoyingly vague task for past me to put on the list.
- This evening! Come along to hear @lyndseycroal.bsky.social & I talk about & read from our new books!
