- Reposted by Highland Cycle CampaignLooks quite bad - though it wasn't the large arched part that went, seems like one of the supports on the other sections collapsed. www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...
- Reposted by Highland Cycle CampaignVery sad to hear the news that part of the Spey Viaduct on the Moray coast collapsed today, in the floods. Rode it a couple of years back while researching for #LostLanesScotland. (it didn't make it into the book in the end, but it's a lovely and much-loved piece of active travel & leisure infra)
- the Scottish Government are Consulting on compulsory purchase legislation. This could see a big change for cycle routes! Bike paths typically need a small amount of land, bit across many owners. www.gov.scot/publications...
- So far no scottish 🏴 LA has used CPO to deliver active travel infra die to prohibitive complexity and cost.

- Reposted by Highland Cycle CampaignI FOI'd English councils whether they use legal land purchase powers to create traffic-free paths. Just 1% said they have successfully. Why is something that's so common for roads almost never done for cycle routes? And what does it mean for cycling? lauralaker.substack.com/p/cycleways-...
- Cycle Path Maintenance Session - Monday 17th , 10am As part of our ‘Clear to Ride’ campaign we are co-hosting a cycle path maintenance session. 📅 Monday 17th Nov 🕙 10am - 12pm (2 hours) 📍Meet at the A9 Underpass 🧤 Bring Gardening gloves and tools if you have them 🧣weather forecast fine but cold
- Access to e-bikes makes traveling the longer distances in rural communities by bike accessible to more people. Its about being able to access your local shop, school or doctor - in areas where public transport is often poor Not everyone lives in London! #cycletowork
- What the fresh craziness is this on Culduthel Road? Why shouldn’t we just stay on the road and use the traffic lights? It’s not even a mandatory cycle lane, just a painted dashed line….
- Just nearby the lane is nearly always blocked by parked cars but that’s apparently not a problem
- Also important to reflect that this is massively ableist. Not all cyclists can dismount, and the signs mostly block the footway anyway.
- It’s pronounced cyclist… 🚲
- Reposted by Highland Cycle CampaignSwitzerland making it all look quite easy 🚌 🚲
- It *is* possible to combine bikes and buses 🚌 🚲 - and in rural communities it can extend the range of whats possible by active transport
- We are crowd sourcing our links page - first up bike recycling ♻️ places in the highlands- where are your favourite places to donate or buy bikes? 🚲

- Reposted by Highland Cycle CampaignEmber don't seem to worry about bike covers. Bike last night was just on side in hold. Imagine that they won't like muddy mountain bikes returning on their Fort William to Edinburgh & Glasgow services though.
- Reposted by Highland Cycle CampaignTheir FAQ has “We'd appreciate if your bike is clean. If it's really dirty, please stick it in a bike bag.” Which seems very reasonable. There’s also other people’s luggage to consider.
- Reposted by Highland Cycle CampaignNo - but have done in past. Students with bikes common - profile is younger passengers with under 22 Scot travel pass. Monday we got on bus and two people with bikes heading towards Glenshee. Bikes booked to go in hold.
- Meeting tonight 7pm@ Merkinch Community centre

- 🌁 from the 4th Sep the Kessock Bridge cycleway closure will switch sides, reopening the more direct west (northbound) side for cyclists 🚴.
- Reposted by Highland Cycle CampaignGod bless Bikes of Inverness. They have taken my bike in and will try to get me on the road. No wheels but they have a freehub body that should be compatible, so 🤞 I’ll be back on the road later today and on the way to John o Groats. The others are riding here from Aviemore.
