- Building from the backdrop of global tensions and wars, including conflicts that have been stoked and intensified by the US and its allies, global military spending has reached record levels ($2.44 trillion in 2024), driven mostly by the same players: the US-driven NATO alliance.
- A founding member of NATO, Canada has contributed to this global militarization by increasing its military spending massively since the end of the Cold War, and capitulating to US pressure to commit an unprecedented proportion of its own GDP to militarization and war.
