- Reposted by Celia KitzingerThere's a private hearing today in Pontypridd County Court. Someone is being deprived of their liberty - on the application (I think) of Rhondda Cynon Taf County Borough Council. Following recent experiences in Wales, I'm concerned about private hearings there + will ask to observe.

- Reposted by Celia Kitzinger8 more hiking miles for #nhs1000miles this week (YTD 16 miles) + a new left knee yesterday! Might be rather fewer miles for the next few weeks …
- ** This is wonderful A court that exceeds expectation. A court that wants P not just to have "care and support" but also to be RADIANT - glowing, joyful, uplifted. Sometimes a typo reveals what's often missing....
- What a shambles. P's bank account locked for nearly 4 years and care home fees unpaid (with his daughter being put under pressure to do something) after COP apparently lost a Deputyship application when a judge went off sick. openjusticecourtofprotection.org/2026/01/06/a...
- None of these 90+ year old protected parties was in court. I doubt most of them even knew about the court case. I *really* don't want to be in this situation when I'm in my 80s or 90s but can't see how to avoid it.....
- New blog post - five people in their 90s at the centre of COP hearings in December.... and @kitzingercelia.bsky.social ponders whether she can plan ahead to avoid being a P in her old age (and decides probably not). openjusticecourtofprotection.org/2026/01/04/l...

- Reposted by Celia KitzingerThis is a long read but an important one for anyone interested in how the Court of Protection, or indeed any public service, interacts with families. It is a shocking and very frightening case and I'm hugely grateful to Zoe and to Celia for sharing it.
- Reposted by Celia KitzingerLord Sumption in his own words is almost always more impressive than other people’s gloss of his arguments and thinking would suggest. “Perhaps the second worst sin that a judge in the final court of appeal can commit is accidentally to decide half a dozen other cases that aren’t before him.“
- Specialist practitioners + judges sometimes lose the habit of looking over the garden wall at what’s happening next door so you get little islands of law governed by completely different principles to the whole of the rest of the law. (Sumption) openjusticecourtofprotection.org/2025/12/10/j...
- This shocking case has generated lots of comments (scroll down to the bottom of the blog post. Thank you to everyone who has sent kind messages to Zoe. No family should be put through this kind of trauma.
