- Thrilled to contribute to this policy brief on making climate policies electorally popular. @fergusgreen.bsky.social and I stress the need to provide redistribution to affected groups, involve trusted stakeholders (unions) in the process, and use strategic communication to counter misinformation.
- 🚨 How are more ambitious climate policies feasible politically? We have published 4 new research briefs on the political viability of climate policies. You can find all the briefs on our website. Here is a 🧵summarizing the briefs. Please share. politicscentre.nuffield.ox.ac.uk/progressive-...
- Reposted by Diane BoletNew article accepted at CPS. @denis-cohen.bsky.social @thmskrr.bsky.social and I analyze how rental market risk affects radical right support. Combining data on local rent increases with the SOEP, we find that individuals facing increasing local rents become more likely to support the AfD. 🧵
- See our WP on the effect of women's labor market participation on gender conservative attitudes among men. We don't find a direct link between the two, but the influence of political elites and influencers (e.g., Trump, Tate, Musk)—who can mobilise male grievances—could change this dynamic.
- New paper on gender backlash: shorturl.at/8eiZw Findings: ⬆️ female labor market participation ⬆️ private grievances among men, but does NOT automatically translate into support for conservative gender policy or for far-right parties. For this, you need activation by political elites. A 🧵 1/n
