- He lived in the US LEGALLY and has been imprisoned by ICE for 5 MONTHS bc he bounced a check and had a simple (non-violent) assault charge 20 YEARS AGO. The US should not be imprisoning people for things you wouldn’t ordinarily go to jail for. And jails for children and families should not exist!!
- He paid only $750 in federal taxes. The entire budget of the IRS is $12 Billion.

- Hard disagree that OUR ideas about the age of consent etc are what changed. I think the line that’s shifted most is WHO’s held accountable, who’s willing to hold them accountable, who’s believed, who’s blamed, & which victims matter. Children & women have always known ignoring their consent is wrong

The modern roots of this operation, going back to the 1980s, are detailed in the excerpt from HIDING IN PLAIN SIGHT below.

- This seems like why some very rich people and some very poor people aren’t afraid to do crimes — they have everything to gain and nothing to lose.
- Reposted by Julia GooliaOne lesson from the Epstein–Mandelson affair is that we need to stop routinely rehabilitating political careers after serious scandals. When politicians knowingly engage in grave ethical wrongdoing, that should permanently end their political careers. Being "talented" should not override that.

- I don’t still hate it but I remember sitting in the back seat of our car in December 1983, waiting to go into the house until we heard the #1 song of the year from Casey Kasem and I was so disappointed that it was Every Breath You Take by The Police. Which ironically is about the authoritarian state
