- Reposted by Natanael, Tech janitorI do want to shout-out my fellow sociologists, who have collectively created a discipline so woke that not a single one of our introductory textbooks can make it past Florida's censors. Great work everyone.
- Reposted by Natanael, Tech janitorEliminating ICE is the modern equivalent of opposing the Iraq War, and right now there are two types of Democrats: those who can see where the ball is moving and go to it, and those who will be swept away because they refused to do so.
- Reposted by Natanael, Tech janitorIn the First Crusade, the soldiers were promised forgiveness of all past and future sins and that they'd go straight to heaven. They massacred everybody. Now it seems that Hegseth, unable to beat Al Quaida, has decided that imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.
- Dozens of articles yesterday reported on Trump's rambling, profane remarks at National Prayer Breakfast. But I was only 1 to cover the more dangerous #ChristianNationalist remarks by Pete Hegseth: publicwitness.wordandway.org/p/at-nationa...

As with previous boat bombings, in violation of US law and international treaties, without any causus beli, when the US wasn’t attacked, and hasn’t even advanced stated goals.

- Reposted by Natanael, Tech janitorDocuments show RFK Jr lied to Congress about his agenda in Samoa—he did indeed go to spread anti-scientific doubts about vaccines. He was ultimately successful in getting an outbreak going there that killed 83 people, mostly babies and young children.
- RFK Jr said during his Senate confirmation hearings that his trip to Samoa in 2019 ahead of a devastating measles outbreak had “nothing to do with vaccines." Documents obtained by @us.theguardian.com and @apnews.com undermine that testimony. Details here, by me and @aliswenson.bsky.social ⬇️

- Reposted by Natanael, Tech janitorWe preliminarily found TikTok in breach of the Digital Services Act for its addictive design. Our investigation suggests that the platform did not properly consider how these addictive features could harm the physical and mental wellbeing of its users, including children and vulnerable adults. ↓

- The wild shit you see when you get submissions from randoms. Since LLMs we get so much more nonsense in cryptography forums, for example. Base rate easily went up 10x. Only a tiny handful of people acknowledging LLM use seem to be capable of using them right.

- Reposted by Natanael, Tech janitorThere are major federal tasks forces operating still in Memphis, New Orleans, Miami-Dade, Phoenix, South Texas, still raiding homes, kidnapping people, black-bagging people from courthouses. If ICE does controversial things but doesn't *say* controversial things, it disappears from the news.
- Reposted by Natanael, Tech janitorThe fact that mainstream media stopped covering ICE kidnappings in LA isn't because ICE stopped kidnapping (they didn't) Or ICE slowed down (they have actually increased their tempo) Or that resistance to ICE slowed down (it never stopped, it grew) It's the "political showdown" that stopped.

- Reposted by Natanael, Tech janitorGood. "But DHS isn't just ICE, it's also..." nope, wrong. DHS no longer serves any useful functions, the whole thing has been reassigned to repression. FEMA isn't even paying out to states. All DHS does is shooting, teargassing, facial recognition, and administrative warrants. Shut it down.
- Reposted by Natanael, Tech janitor‘One officer told me that I "had no chance of returning to Minnesota" and that "the best thing for (me] is self-deportation." … She offered me $2600 to self-deport. I refused. I wanted to talk to my attorney. They didn't tell me the judge had already ordered my release and return to Minnesota.’
- Reposted by Natanael, Tech janitorEvery president from Nixon on released their tax returns, but Trump -- who insisted he would follow that custom -- repeatedly refused to do that. So finally they were leaked, showing he paid only $750 in 2016 and nothing in 2017. He's now demanding all of us, who *did* pay our full taxes, pay him.
- Donald Trump’s frivolous $10 billion lawsuit against the IRS over his leaked tax returns, if he were to win or get a settlement, would be paid entirely by U.S. taxpayers. trib.al/eiYvT8m

- Reposted by Natanael, Tech janitorImportant paper. Schools are high-risk environments for respiratory disease transmission MAINLY because classrooms are underventilated. This problem has a workable solution - it just needs political will. Air quality is as important as water quality for public health. MT @martinmckee.bsky.social

- This is the Yale professor's explanation for why he described the physical attractiveness of a student in an email to Epstein. He explicitly says he regrets nothing about their association. Again, I'm so happy Yale hired David Brooks to restore trust. yaledailynews.com/articles/gel...
