- Great analysis from an economical perspective on the issue of receiving psychotherapy when indicated!
- 🧵 New WP with @kaimiele.bsky.social. We document 2 unsettling patterns in mental health care: 1) despite universal coverage, few individuals with mental illness receive guideline-consistent treatment, and 2) the more severe the illness, the lower the treatment uptake & the longer the wait times. 1/n

- Reposted by Lukas A. Basedow, PhDI've never experienced anything like this in my life, where people keep telling me that "we have to use AI or else we'll be left behind" but they don't actually tell me exactly what problem they are hoping to solve with the "AI" or how we would know it was useful. But we must use it! Apparently.
- Finally got around to reading this great paper. A really insightful argument for treating psychedelic-assisted therapy as psychotherapy!
- With Zalsupindole (see quoted skeet) and Bretisilocin (5F-MET; journals.sagepub.com/doi/10.1177/...) there are very exciting things happening in the psychedelic drug development world. 5F-MET especially might be well suited to psychedelic-assisted psychotherapy with a half life of 40-50 minutes!
- Big week for all you second-gen psychedelics and non-hallucinatory neuroplastogens fans! New results from Zalsupindole - promotes greater neuroplasticity than ketamine, psilocybin, or DMT, without any of the pesky psychedelic side (fun?) effects. pubs.acs.org/doi/abs/10.1...

- Reposted by Lukas A. Basedow, PhDIt has often been suggested that psychotherapy works because patients expect it will work before they have even started treatment. But what if treatment expectations are an emergent phenomenon that develops in the course of psychotherapy and contributes to a successful outcome?

- Reposted by Lukas A. Basedow, PhDThe proposition facing patients for most drug trials isn't "you will be given placebo, or some miracle drug" It's "you will be given the standard of care you would receive if not enrolled on the trial plus a placebo, or that standard of care plus a new drug that may or may not be effective"
- Reposted by Lukas A. Basedow, PhDI agree w/ the problem description, but I'm skeptical of the proposed solution. Yes, the efficacy of treatment is to some extent substantially overestimated (due to publication bias, risk of bias etc.). However, the evidence for the effectiveness of universal prevention strategies is *even worse*.
