- Reposted by Maria BegerMass bleaching of corals on the Great Barrier Reef in early 2024 was the most severe and most widespread yet recorded - surpassing 1998, 2002, 2016, 2017, 2020 & 2022. The overall mortality rate this year will exceed the 30% loss in 2016. www.nature.com/articles/s41...
- Terrible news today: This year, one-third of coral cover has been destroyed in two northern sections of the Great Barrier reef due to anthropogenic heating. Results for the southern sections (which were even hotter) have not been officially released. www.aims.gov.au/information-...
