- It seems that in the recent military and imperialist intervention we are in the INVERSE of the entanglement between oil-politics-capitalism that Mitchell explains. It is not the oil companies that have motivated the president to intervene to maintain profits, as in the XXth century.
- It is Trump that must persuade oil industries to invest in its fossil fuels agenda in a world where the oil industry face increasing pressures. Trump wants to sustain an oil oligopoly of market power and profits for its own politics and personal profit in an era of a new energetic transition.
- So even if the new Monroe doctrine in LATAM does not make economic or energetic sense in imperial terms, it is a serious threat to a politics based on energy independence. Making the rest of the world dependendent of the US will translate into trying to sustain old fossil fuel politics.

- 2/8 Our preliminary results with Peter Starke point to something striking: from relatively low GDP levels, pension replacement rates decouple from GDP. In some cases, GDP per capita is even estimated to have a negative effect on pension benefits.
- 3/8 Labour-market outcomes matter far more. Participation rates, employment levels and productivity shape pension outcomes more strongly than GDP growth itself. This raises a key question: what happens to pensions in low-growth or post-growth scenarios?
