- Just started a new podcast whose host substitutes a 'd' for a 't' when broadcasting (the behaviour of a dosser), and I'm trying to find out if he's Australian (which would make it borderline acceptable) or if he's not (in which case I'll reluctantly have to stop listening).
- Imagine if the King gets dementia and eventually the only thing he can remember from his past is this.
- One of the most exciting procedural films ever made. Nuts and bolts can be more thrilling than any number of explosions.
- I've read two books in a row that have included scenes of young women falling in love with the poetry of Richard Crashaw. This kind of thing happens to me far more often than you'd expect. Anyway, the books are HILDA LESSWAYS by Arnold Bennett and AS IF BY MAGIC by Angus Wilson.

- Judge Goldsworth's desk in PALE FIRE contains an 'old but unused pocket diary optimistically maturing there until its calendric correspondencies came around again'. Happy to report that now it's 2026 I can finally use the 2015 RSC calendar that I bought by mistake at the start of 2016.
- I can't believe these #BookSky people posting their books of the year before today. What if you read your best book on New Year's Eve? Well, I didn't, now you mention it, but it's been a good year. Here's what I got up to in 2025.
- An addendum to yesterday's post: my big rereading project starts now. #BookSky

- I love this in Ivy Compton-Burnett's MANSERVANT AND MAIDSERVANT. The 'HMM' at the bottom is the printer's way of identifying that this is gathering H of M[anservant] and M[aidservant] (pages earlier on are labelled e.g. GMM and FMM), but it looks like a sardonic commentary on the action.
