- This is it right here
- Just finished @ravineangel.bsky.social’s Persona. An extremely rough read that I’m glad I stuck with because once it gets its hooks in you there is this amazing tenderness to it you wouldn’t believe. Challenging, but an immensely worthy reminder that in spite of everything, we have to keep living.

- Reposted by Casey PlettThere's a Toni Morrison quote I reference a lot: "We cannot be optimistic, but we can be clear." A problem I have with many historical parallels is they are inherently fatalistic and often obscure possibilities for redirection

- Reposted by Casey PlettHello, looks like independent publishers should beef up our books coverage. If you're into the idea of joining the @flaminghydra.com collective and writing a book review each month (800-2000 word range), please send us your ideas and some clips to hello@flamingydra.com
- In 1999, when Amazon began to implement algorithm recommendations instead of ones written by humans, the team in charge hung a sign on the wall: "PEOPLE FORGET THAT JOHN HENRY DIED IN THE END". Imagine how rich those people are now, and what decisions they get to make about us.

- The Books section of WaPo was legit good. I loved reading Ron Charles' weekly newsletter. I always get something from Becca Rothfeld's reviews. Wrote one review for them in Fall '24 and it was a tight-ship pro experience that paid well (things MSM oft does not deliver!) Sucks all around.

- Reposted by Casey Plett"actually his stuff was very Derivative and not Original" like, you don't have to do this. it is good for us all to sit with the cognitive dissonance that a very bad person can make very good art. it is good for us to work through the moral ramifications of that.
- Reposted by Casey Plettone thing that would be cool, when prominent creators turn out to be terrible people, would be if we didn't have to go through this performative dance of insisting that their work was never good in the first place.
- Among other things, PERSONA is the most Pacific Northwest book I've read in years and Vancouver if you don't go to this you will regret it forever

- Do you remember when people were saying "I think my phone is listening to me, i'm getting ads for stuff I spoke about" and people said "They arent listening to you, they're just this good at predicting your interests"? Well, it happens they were doing exactly that. www.cbsnews.com/news/google-...

- Reposted by Casey PlettI can’t stress this enough. The state of 4th Amendment law is that the cops can’t force you to type in a passcode but they can force you to swipe your finger or present your face. Never stop using passcodes/passwords to unlock your devices. And consider additional code to unlock Signal.
- The FBI was able to access Washington Post reporter Hannah Natanson's Signal messages because she used Signal on her work laptop. The laptop accepted Touch ID for authentication, meaning the agents were allowed to require her to unlock it. storage.courtlistener.com/recap/gov.us...
- It's nice to get a lil' kick out of something for a long time
- Spent all day mercilessly slagging Ohioans for their inability to deal with cold and snow and came home at 11 PM to a frozen pipe. Tough-girl bluster comes for us all.
