Been checking the science topics of the proposals approved by the ESO OPC for ESPRESSO. 75% of the time went to one type of proposal. Statistics-focused follow up of transiting systems. There isn't a single proposal focused on discoveries, atmospheres, or anything low-mass planets 🔭#exoplanets
Feb 5, 2026 14:53I won't comment on any specific proposal (I don't have access to read them), but I had never seen such a narrow-minded selection by a time allocation committee. Having not a single proposal approved, on ESPRESSO, for atmospheres, or Earth-like planets, is ridiculous 🔭#exoplanets
