Hunting low mass exoplanets.
- Rich people forming a cult, killing for fun, and having weird power games is surprisingly more realistic that this was ever aiming to be. Can't wait, the first one was quite good!
- Reposted by A. Suárez MascareñoIn @nytopinion.nytimes.com “MAGA-style leaders may say that our country can’t handle taking in so many migrants, that this is a suicidal move — the desperate act of a collapsing country,” writes Pedro Sánchez, the prime minister of Spain. “But don’t let them fool you. Spain is booming.”
- Been checking the science topics of the proposals approved by the ESO OPC for ESPRESSO. 75% of the time went to one type of proposal. Statistics-focused follow up of transiting systems. There isn't a single proposal focused on discoveries, atmospheres, or anything low-mass planets 🔭#exoplanets

- ESO TAC results out today and the website is so saturated there's no way to check them lol🔭
- Plenty of people getting mad because the current economic situation has plenty of issues, but as someone whose circle entered the job market between 2008-2012, I celebrate this with no asterisks. That time was BLEAK. I think a lot of people have forgotten where we come from.

- Reposted by A. Suárez MascareñoIt's happening!!! Pandora is going to space in just over 16 hours (if all goes well). Pandora is going to help us study exoplanet atmospheres, even when their host stars are misbehaving. I am headed up to Vandenberg to watch the launch shortly, and will make a thread about the mission/launch here!
- Had a project/paper idea while in the shower. Hadn't have one of those for a while... and now I really want to start with it. I think it can be done in a couple days, *IF* it works.

- Reposted by A. Suárez MascareñoBig congrats to the Nobel Committee for awarding the prize "for her struggle to achieve a just and peaceful transition from dictatorship to democracy" just so she could immediately conspire with a foreign government to murder civilians on the high seas then invade and stage a coup.
- I feel like the history of western imperialism is often like this, where there's an almost-plausible case for resource-grabbing, an almost plausible geopolitical explanation (first Caracas, then Havana), and a sort of liberal imperialist fig leaf to keep democrats from being too mad (the Nobel shit)

- So we are starting 2026 with a US military attack on Venezuela, the kidnapping of the head of state, and the likely backing of a US-friendly new leader (protected by US military) who will gladly sell all natural resource reserves to US companies. Henry Kissinger would be proud.

- I see people in social media claiming that the reception of the Stranger Things finale has been similar to the reception of the GOT finale, but it cannot be further from the truth. Of course there are people that didn't like it (or even hated it), but these are opposite distributions.
- Farewell Stranger Things. It has been a pleasure. You will be missed.

- Getting ready for an eventful new year

- To celebrate the imminent arrival of the new year, I watched Anaconda (2025) on the big screen, as Martin Scorsese would have wanted. A reboot of Anaconda about rebooting Anaconda. A remake, a spoof, a movie about movies, and a spoof of movies about movies. So stupid it ultimately works.
- Our work on Proxima was featured in Space.com as one of the most exciting exoplanet works of 2025! www.space.com/astronomy/ex...
- So today I found out that the original Crazy Frog video has 5.6 billion views on youtube, and that the creator of the creature is ashamed of his creation (I fully understand). Isn't life magical? So... happy holidays, I guess...

- I will probably continue to watch Avatar movies until the end of times, but James Cameron needs to calm down with the HFR. Worst part, by far, of the movie.
- Today, youtube recommended me to watch this amazing video. I'm gonna be thinking about it for a very long time www.youtube.com/watch?v=MvGK...
- I brought a mechanical keyboard mostly to see if they were actually better and its making me excited of typing. They are really better.

- Sad news of the day
- Well this is worrying. NASA has maintained funding for ADS but not SciX (a broader database). In response, management is planning to *close* ADS in Feb 2026, forcing all users to switch to SciX. ☄️🔭 Funding info: ads.harvard.edu/adsug/2025/0... Transition plan: ads.harvard.edu/adsug/2025/0...
- Movie you’ve watched more than six times with a gif. Hard mode: no Stars (Wars nor Trek), LOTR, or Marvel, Disney Animated or Pixar.

- I started playing The Witcher 3, for the first time, and i'm amazed at how spectacular it looks. If I didn't knew, I wouldn't say It is a 2015 game.

- Today I got a somewhat annoyed email from our IT department telling me I'm not allowed to keep saving all those 2020 attachments I have already forgotten about in my email server. Now I am forced to remove all those paper drafts and ESO observing logs from 4-5 years ago.
