- Micromobility is not just miniature driving.
- I’ve been told to get married and have kids by so many people, who don’t realize that the biggest reason I haven’t done that, is because they fight endlessly against policies and practices that would make life affordable enough for me to do so…

- I’m forgetting what the exact number was - or where I got it, but I think it was a council meeting. I’m poking around to find it again. In the meantime, here’s something related-ish: www150.statcan.gc.ca/n1/daily-quo...

- A lot of it is definitely a perception - not to say we shouldn’t be doing more to make transit an appealing option! It’s all about how we measure risk, experience consequences, the level of control we feel, etc. Daily riders seemed less concerned about safety than irregular users.

- I’ve been carolling at Heritage Park this holiday season. It’s been a delight!
- It’s always crazy to me when people want their constituents to die.
- This just in! Bridge across river means more people crossing river!
- The post I was quoting got removed, but this is the article saying "Alberta renters don’t need more ‘supply’ — they need non-market housing options”. There’s *no* reason that advocacy for non-market housing should downplay or be put in opposition to the importance of overall supply.

- Nothing makes me more angry than when I have to pay the chef for my meal 😡

View full threadBecause of our lack in housing variety, we also end up with a housing mismatch. I live in an SDH with a bunch of roommates (a clown-car bungalow as one friend put it). It’s on a school street and would be great for a young family… but there aren’t enough apartments or townhomes that’d work for me.
- Building enough homes for everyone takes every lever, not just one. The housing strategy has nearly 100 recommendations, and we gotta do all of them.
- It’s brutal. The way I think about it is we’ve had decades of not building enough housing, and now we’re playing catch up. Non-profit housing providers have to jump through the same hoops as other developers - so making it easier for for-profit, can help non-profit, too.
- As part of playing catchup, we have a lack of homes that are reasonably priced, because we don’t have as many homes reaching that 30 year mark. 30 years from now, all this new stuff with be more affordable… it’s just that our current generation misses out 🫠

- A must listen! (Also the honour of my lifetime to get a moment in here.)
- New Sprawlcast out this morning! Mmmm... I do love me some transit butter. You can listen to the episode or read the article version (or do both!) as you see fit. #yyccc

- The hexes will be especially handy, I think.
- I’m just gonna start a Luddite housing coop.

- Ah yes! “One-size fits all” where I’m allowed to build a variety of things. As opposed to not one-size fits all where I’m only allowed to build one thing.
- Today, I learned you can just make your own left-turn lane…

- I genuinely find the 6-7 thing hilarious 😂
- We really need to take some pride in the way we do our snow clearing. Winter will never be easy to get around, but… we could try a little harder.
- Why aren’t there more people swimming across the freezing river? We can’t measure the number of people who’d cross a river with a bridge by the number of people who’re crossing it without one. If you ever think, “No one bikes here.” Ask, “Would I bike here?”
- And I demand to know how many cars drive down my street each day! If it turns out to be any less than Deerfoot Trail, I demand the City pull it up! I won’t stand for such economic inefficiencies!
- Danielle Smith and her Transportation Secretary are “demanding” Calgary's cycling numbers. The city is apparently “refusing” to provide them. But... Calgary’s bike counter data is readily available online: data.eco-counter.com/ParcPublic/?...
- Stay tuned for what 2026 will bring 👀
- Hoping to see more Humane Cities videos in the future. 😀👍 @alexwilliamsyyc.bsky.social It’s really awesome to see the messages and ideas Alex shares with video examples in Calgary. It makes it real and relevant. #Calgary youtube.com/shorts/GfO1t...

- A lawn sign is a signal that Ward 11 is ready for change. Every sign on a yard, balcony, or window shows support for a stronger, safer, more affordable Calgary. Want one? Request online: www.alexwilliamsyyc.ca/signs. Where there's a Williams, there's a way!
- It’s better than nothing, true! But when it comes to getting around the city, it’s not really the thought that counts.
- It's official – election season has begun! I'll be at your doorstep, ready to listen and talk about what matters most in Ward 11. You can also reach me anytime by email or phone. Where there's a Williams, there's a way! Let's make Ward 11 stronger, safer, and more affordable.
- When sidewalks are missing or broken, kids, seniors, and transit riders pay the price. Safer routes mean better access to schools, transit, and local shops. Where there's a Williams, there's a way – small fixes make a big difference. Where do sidewalks end in Ward 11?
- from my Facebook ads... I have a few weeks to decide if [CANDIDATE NAME] is the right choice for Ward 11. ... "and the Brian Thiessen for Mayor"

- Sucky thing about this election is that without any experience running as an independent would get you screwed. Luckily, I really like the other ward candidates and Brian Thiessen (or, as the above add suggests, “THE Brian Thiessen” 😅). I’d be happy to text/call/email to chat about it.
- Nice to meet you, I’m [CANDIDATE NAME]!
- Macleod Trail could be so much more than a stroad people rush through. With smart planning, it can become a corridor where housing, small businesses & safe connections thrive – not just traffic. What’s your vision for the future of Macleod Trail?
