Adrian Kettle
Birder on Yell in Shetland.
- come to the conclusion it is just not worth bothering; protected areas by the Humber, right managed by Lincs Trust; track to a sailing pit, apparently hedge prevents wind and stops sailing; also harbours insects that used to feed 1000 Swifts and hirundines in spring - disconnect with natural world

- Researching at the mo & I saw this famous shot that I hadn't seen in 30 years ~ a David Hunt classic of Bob Henry giving the epic Upland Sandpiper (on St Mary's, by the hospital) a worm in Oct. 1983. The late Brian Field looks on w/Keith Vinnicombe to the right. An all-time favourite rarity of mine.

- ORCAS! Today we spent a couple of hours following the 27s pod from land as they headed east from Ollaberry. We enjoyed superb views of six individuals as they passed us off Mossbank. Great to see both of the young calves born in 2022 & 2024. #MarineLife #MarineMammals #CetaceansUK #UKWildlife

- Just got sent this by @howardvaughanbeb.bsky.social (who’s lurking at the back) Blakeney Point, 14th May ‘88. Bonelli’s warbler twitch. Not sure why I’m standing on one leg #KidListers
- Two Pacific Divers off Roskilly (12th Jan). These are probably the third & fourth for Cornwall. Photo includes four Great Northern Diver and two Pacific Diver (extreme right and second left). This is the first time that two Pacific’s have actually been seen and photographed together in Cornwall.

- Serendib Scops-Owl from Sinharaja, Sri Lanka, November 2025. Two well-hidden birds were seen after a considerable trek in the rainforest.

- A pleasant afternoon along the the Stour Estuary yesterday produced this Black-throated Diver, two Great Northern Divers and two Black-necked Grebes. It was nice to get out and this was my first birding in Suffolk since returning from Sri Lanka.
