- Had the opportunity to see more than a dozen pink pigeons (Nesoenas mayeri) in the National Park of Black River Gorges in Mauritius. Brought back from the brink of extinction, there are now 500-600 individuals of this endemic bird on the island.
- A few more common, non-endemic birds were also here: red-whiskered bulbuls and village weavers
- Apparently it's #Crustmas, so here's another hermit crab (Calcinus sp?) and his neighbour, and a crab crab (Grapsus tenuicrustatus?)
- And for some change of pace, an helmet urchin and a fish (unidentified) sunbathing on the rocks.
- Some hermit crabs found on the Mauritius coasts, might be Calcinus laevimanus (yes, I'm a bad photographer)
- After working for more than one year on the @atlasea.bsky.social project, I had to buy this one.

- The M gene is one of several sex determinants (ZW system, f-element, Wolbachia) in A. vulgare. It is thought that the masculinizing M allele has been selected to re-establish balanced sex ratios in some pops in which the feminizing f-element, another sex determinant, is present.
- Highlights: • Around 2 Mb with no recombination with the M gene, and different from the ZW locus • The M gene region contains 34 genes, among them the one coding for the androgenic gland hormone, involved in male sexual differentiation • Likely recent emergence of the masculinizing M allele
