What changed is pretty simple! (1) The Lake City Fred Meyer closure threatens to create a food & pharmacy desert in a neighborhood that clearly has the customer base to support a grocery store. The surrounding community is angry about it and looking for solutions.

(2) WA’s largest private-sector union, representing grocery workers, tells me they’re interested in partnering to create a public-option grocery store. With their industry experience and relationships, that becomes WAY more feasible.

As mayor, I’ll be excited to move forward with this if we've developed a solid plan with strong community buy-in, one that solves a real problem & is a wise use of resources relative to other things we could be doing. That’s just good governance.
