A lot of people who claim to be leftists are lecturing Will about How Things Are. They cite history, they cite theory, they cite the crimes of cops and fascists and the political elite. Fine!

Three things they don’t seem to talk about: Provocateurs, entrapment and encouraging schism. Which is weird, because these tactics have been a central tool against the left for more than 100 years!
My parents were in a socialist society in the sixties, and they had dodgy people exhorting them to firebomb the local church. Guess what happened to anyone dumb enough to listen to them?
Their grandparents were members of the CP in the thirties and forties, and they got the same treatment.
And why not? It’s easy: Drive individuals to violence and then punish the movement collectively, all the while spreading fear and distrust. This has literally been the most salient and most dangerous structural reality of leftism since before any of us were born!!!
