- I’ve been pretty busy with my new job but it’s still a thrill to see my academic work published. My co-author and I argue ecological restoration on military lands can reduce Canada’s defence-related GHGs. Delighted to join some of the best climate and security scholars in the world in these pages.

- Reposted by Will GreavesFor decades, countries like Canada prospered under what we called the ‘rules-based international order.’ That order is not coming back, but from the fracture, we can build something better, stronger, and more just. youtu.be/Ve4FwAexdSQ

- Reposted by Will GreavesHoly smokes - he opened with a reference to Vaclav Havel's "The Power of the Powerless," among the all-time greats of underground revolutionary literature (Havel spent years in jail for it, then became Czech's president after his release). Momentous speech. Read the whole thing.
- Reposted by Will GreavesThis is one of the sharpest analyses of international affairs that I've heard from a Canadian leader - or any national leader - in a long time. And I suspect he wrote the main bits himself. paulwells.substack.com/p/the-carney...

- If “democracy dies in darkness” one might ask why The Washington Post is recycling second-rate Arctic analysis circa 2009 to rationalize Donald Trump’s unhinged fantasy of conquering Greenland.
- For context, in 2008-09 a rush of analysis claimed that climate change and abundant natural resources would make the Arctic more accessible to hostile foreign actors and lead to great power conflict in the region between the US, Russia, and China.

- The silver lining here is it suggests the US will not move forward with military aggression toward Greenland. But it also underscores the arbitrary, capricious, and unconstitutional nature of Donald Trump’s tariff policy. He is prepared to beggar the US and its allies for no reason beyond his ego.

- Reposted by Will GreavesCanadian Prime Minister Mark Carney clarifies position on the United States using military force to annex Greenland: "We stand with Denmark, we stand with Greenland, our closest partnership is with the United States, and we'll work with everybody to make sure we move forward together"

- Reposted by Will GreavesIt’s genuinely wild that the United States spent decades building an elaborate rules-based international order which de facto cemented its permanent status as the dominant global hegemon, sustained by ideology rather than might, and now is just blowing it all up for literally no reason
- Donald Trump’s threats against Greenland undermine NATO, but also risk fatally harming cooperation among the A7 Arctic states. Our Nordic allies are clear and united that Greenland is part of K. of Denmark and its future is for Greenlanders to decide. Canada must be as clear.
- 2025 was an extraordinary year for my family. Our lives were turned upside down (“events, dear boy, events”) and I am so grateful to the people who cared for us along the way. Thanks to family, friends, supporters, and my great team. Happy new year and best wishes for 2026!
