had an interaction today that really made me think about how shallow and hollowed out evangelical christianity has become. today i went downtown to drop my bike off to get fixed and while i was waiting for the bus to come, a homeless man sat next to me. behind me, this young street preacher(?) Jan 17, 2026 23:03had been asking people around me if they were christians and so when he finally got to me i took the bait and said yes. he would go on to start trying to rebuke me for not going around and evangelizing? i explained my long and complicated walk with religion and how i’ve brought multiple people (2/6)
to the faith and am working to be an acolyte in my church but he still ended up like “oh you’re gonna have to answer for what you haven’t done” which i thought was uniquely weird because he didn’t even do much as look at the homeless man. i had given him money like i initially planned and we (3/6)
talked about people like the guy (who had then walked away) and how he wasn’t really doing anything. the homeless man prays daily and said he is very blessed with people that care and we both spoke about how it’s very hollow to go around preaching and rebuking others without so much as even (4/6)
holding the door for other people or offering to pray for them. i think this is one of those interactions i’ll be thinking about for a very long time because it felt so, like, bizarre that someone preaching the christian message wouldn’t even so much as glance at a homeless man, especially (5/6)
given that the big j man himself wasn’t exactly a person with a permanent residence throughout the bible. idk it just. it’ll stick with me for a while (6/6)
