We have a full-size wind turbine in Maple Grove (population ~80k) near apartments and a shopping center. There is also a solar farm on the same premises.Feb 4, 2026 21:03
- The Becker Plant ("Sherco") went from having lots of smoke seen on US-10 to none. While still in operation, it had a necromacy plan for over a decade. Unit 2, shut down in 2023, had its capacity replaced with solar. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sherbur.... Unit 1, the oldest, will shut down this year.
- The only disruption I saw from any of this was rolling blackouts in the Spring and Summer of the early 2020s, but that's not happening anymore anywhere there are underground power lines. Edina still has rolling blackouts because it's one of the few suburbs that still have above-ground power lines.
