- This is really crucial in understanding today's right wing: it is an arena in which you can get attention, and become famous, without any skill or insight or knowledge. All you have to do is say outrageous shit. So it's become a collection bin for all these failed, flailing narcissists.
- My very most cringe, normie opinion is that the Obamas are extraordinary people -- the smartest, kindest, funniest, most self-aware & self-possessed human beings involved in US public life in this century. They modeled decency -- called the country to decency -- and the country said No.

- Opening ceremonies are making Mrs. Volts cry, and she can't quite explain why. I honestly just think that, these days, in the US, any glimpse of decency or beauty or love or wonder in public life is like an oasis in the f'ing desert. A reminder that humans can be good & creative & cooperative.
