Rep. Nydia Velázquez

Representing New York's 7th Congressional District in the U.S. House of Representatives. Ranking Member of the House Small Business Committee.
.
- Today, I joined thousands of New Yorkers to demand justice for Renee Nicole Good. From Minneapolis to Manhattan, our message is the same: No Wars, No Kings, and NO ICE in our communities.
- If Trump’s aggression in the Caribbean is about drugs, why did he just seize an oil tanker? This is yet another dangerous escalation that brings us closer to a regime change war. Congress must wake up, reassert its constitutional authority, and stop this.
- Trump calls affordability a hoax and gives himself a A+++++ rating on the economy. Meanwhile, Americans are skipping medical care and struggling to afford food. The Trump economy is crushing working families. www.politico.com/news/2025/12...
- My joint statement with @meng.house.gov and @cmjuliewon.bsky.social on the case of Fei and Yuanxin:
- The administration’s rush toward war with Venezuela is reckless and unlawful. I won’t stand by while we’re marched into another disastrous intervention. Congress must reassert its constitutional authority and stop this escalation.
- A “deal” that leaves millions facing higher health costs in exchange for empty promises is a betrayal. Americans are counting on Democrats to stand up for them, not give in. The Senate should reject it, and I will vote NO if it reaches the House.

- I joined 10s of thousands of New Yorkers today to say it loud and clear: No to tyranny. No to cruelty. No to kings in America. The GOP can smear these protests all they want, but they can't silence the truth. Americans are fed up with their authoritarian agenda.
- What’s happening to @newyorkstateag.bsky.social is a blatant abuse of power. Trump is using a corrupt Department of Justice to attack his political enemies. This is straight out of the authoritarian playbook. New Yorkers stand with Tish James.
- Earlier this week I joined colleagues in urging Sec. Rubio to protect the Global Sumud Flotilla. Now my constituent, Zuleyka Morales Rivera, a U.S. veteran, has been abducted with other Americans bringing aid to Gaza. The State Department must act now to protect all captives.
- Trump’s blockade of Hudson Tunnel and 2nd Ave Subway funds is illegal and an attack on New Yorkers. These are strongman tactics used to punish political opponents. NY Republicans must choose: stand with New Yorkers or bow to Trump.
- House: Republican. Senate: Republican. White House: Republican. Republicans are dragging our nation toward a government shutdown. Threatening paychecks for federal workers, delaying vital services for families, and destabilizing our economy. Working people will pay the price for their chaos.
- Today on @democracynow.org I spoke about my bill, the No Masks for ICE Act, which would prohibit ICE agents from wearing masks while carrying out arrests and detentions. Federal agents should never hide their identity from the public. Transparency is fundamental to protecting civil rights.

- This is cancel culture brought to you by the federal government. All part of the Trump admin's ongoing efforts to turn the free press into right-wing state media. This is an assault on free speech. If you claim to care about the First Amendment, you must call it out.

- At this week’s @NRDems hearing, I voiced my concerns around permitting reform. While I support accelerating renewable energy development, we cannot allow a pro–fossil fuel, anti–clean energy administration that disregards the climate crisis to weaken NEPA.
- Today marks 24 years since nearly 3,000 lives were stolen on one of the darkest days in our nation’s and New York’s history on 9/11. We honor the courage of first responders, survivors, and all who carried us through.
- The devastation in Gaza is unbearable. Entire families gone, neighborhoods erased, too often caused by bombs stamped Made in the USA. That’s why I support @repdeliaramirez Block the Bombs Act. No more blank checks for war and US weapons fueling genocide. We must demand peace.
- This is the man that says he's not in the files.

- For months, the Trump admin has blocked me & my colleagues from inspecting 26 Federal Plaza. This ruling is more proof they've been hiding abusive, illegal conditions. Judge Kaplan’s order is progress, but we won’t stop until the 10th floor ICE detention site is shut down.
- On Jan 6, as the Capitol was under attack, Trump refused to call in the National Guard. He later pardoned those who beat police & tried to overturn the election. Now, with DC crime down, he’s sending in the Guard in an authoritarian power grab. We must stand against it, or other cities will be next

- On Medicaid's 60th anniversary, I gathered health care workers, hospital leaders, and patients at Wyckoff in Bushwick to speak out against the GOP’s massive health care cuts. This is the biggest attack on care in our nation’s history and we won't stop fighting.
- Awdah Hathaleen, a teacher, father & activist, was shot & killed by an Israeli settler. The settler was sanctioned by the US for violence in the West Bank, but Trump lifted the penalties. His murder is the result of US & Israeli policies that enable settler violence. He deserves justice.
- Telling Dreamers to “self-deport” is nothing short of cruel. These are young people who grew up here, went to school here, and built their lives here. This is their home, and I will not stop fighting for them.
- Trump just called the Epstein Files “bullshit” and said anyone who cares is a “weakling.” He desperately wants us to look away. So do House Republicans. We’re not letting this go. Release the files.
- Sayfollah "Saif" Musallet was a 20-year-old American visiting family in the West Bank for the summer. He was beaten to death by Israeli settlers. The U.S. must immediately launch a full, independent investigation and demand accountability for his death.
- Today, @repespaillat.bsky.social and I were denied our right to congressional oversight at 26 Federal Plaza. They are detaining immigrant New Yorkers in reportedly horrific conditions and dare to deny they are a detention facility. DHS must stop with the semantics and follow the law.
- Today, we stood outside the ICE detention facility at 26 Federal Plaza to say loud and clear: NO MASKS FOR ICE. These tactics are creating chaos and facilitating abuse. It’s time to pass my bill and bring basic accountability to immigration enforcement.

- The Supreme Court just opened the door for Trump’s assault on birthright citizenship. As Justice Sotomayor warned in her dissent, “No right is safe in the new legal regime the Court creates.” This ruling is an attack on the very foundation of our nation.
- Trump’s illegal strikes on Iran risk dragging the US into another disastrous endless conflict & endanger countless innocent lives across the region. The American people don't want this. Congress must pass the War Powers Resolution & stop Trump’s unconstitutional march to war.
- The Trump admin jailed Mahmoud Khalil for over 3 months, not because he committed a crime but because he exercised his free speech rights. His ongoing detention was a threat to the civil liberties of all Americans. I'm relieved he'll finally be reunited with his family.
- The US cannot be dragged into another endless war in the Middle East. I mourn the innocent lives already lost & the US must use every diplomatic tool available to stop the fighting. Congress must assert its constitutional authority and prohibit an unauthorized war with Iran.
- Brad Lander was violently arrested for standing up for immigrant rights and asking ICE to see a warrant. This is yet another authoritarian attack on anyone who dares to hold the Trump administration accountable. He must be released immediately.
- Americans do not want war with Iran, and only Congress has the power to declare one. We must not allow the US to be dragged into another endless conflict. Proud to join this resolution.
- I’m horrified by the political assassination of Rep. Melissa Hortman and her husband, and the attack on Sen. John Hoffman and his wife. This is a tragedy for Minnesota and for our country. There is no place for this in our politics. We all must stand together to reject political violence.
- @padilla.senate.gov was manhandled and detained for attending a public DHS press conference. The Trump administration is trying to silence protestors, journalists, and even U.S. Senators. This is authoritarian behavior. We need a full investigation. I stand with Senator Padilla.
- ICE agents hiding their faces and badges spreads fear and eliminates accountability for abuse. These secret police tactics don’t belong in our democracy. Today, I introduced the No Masks for ICE Act to bring basic transparency and accountability to immigration enforcement.
- @replamonica.bsky.social was doing her job. This indictment is an authoritarian attempt by the Trump administration to punish her and chill congressional oversight. This political retaliation won’t stop us. I stand with Rep. McIver.
- ICE is ripping New York families apart, and we must step up to protect our immigrant communities. Today, I led my colleagues in urging NY state leaders to pass the New York For All Act to ensure state and local resources aren't fueling Trump's mass deportation campaign.
- Yesterday, I went with @repespaillat.bsky.social to the Jacob Javits Federal Building to investigate reported inhumane, unjust treatment of immigrants. ICE blocked my oversight visit, violating my rights as a Member of Congress. I will keep working to expose abuse & hold ICE accountable.
- I introduced the Police Not ICE Act to stop ICE and CBP from masquerading as local police and terrorizing immigrant communities. This is about protecting our neighbors from Trump’s unconstitutional deportation machine and ensuring public safety. Our communities deserve protection.
- Trump in case you still don’t get it, Musk te dió banda y te botó
- Trump’s new travel ban has nothing to do with safety & everything to do with shutting people out & isolating the US. Just like in 2017, it’s discriminatory & wrong. Back then, Americans rallied together to stand against it. We must come together again to defend what’s right.
- What’s unfolding in Gaza is unconscionable. Millions face starvation, and we can’t look away. I’m proud to support this resolution urging the Trump administration to do everything in its power to get aid to civilians. We have to act now to save lives.
- Homelessness in NYC is up 53% in recent years. Raising rent for CityFHEPS voucher holders' risks pushing even more New Yorkers into instability and homelessness. Working families deserve better. ny1.com/nyc/all-boro...
- The Boulder attack is a terrifying reminder of the rise in antisemitism across our country. My thoughts are with the victims of this heinous act. We cannot allow violence to divide us further.
- “Well, we all are going to die.” is the Republican health care plan in a nutshell.
- Musk, you’re fired. We never voted for you, and we don’t want unelected billionaires calling the shots. This country belongs to the people, not the richest guy in the room.
- Join my office on May 29 from 6–7:30 PM on Zoom for a women’s health webinar with local healthcare professionals. We’ll discuss the importance of regular check-ups, screenings, and preventive care. Scan or click to RSVP! bit.ly/439E50a
