- Sunrise has put in so much effort over the past 30 years to make sure that there is always a simple choice for someone's first Gundam (First or otherwise). And yet, this seems to have only caused further confusion and discord. How tragically, profoundly, maddeningly Gundam.

- Crac (1981) technically meets none of the criteria: not anime, not obscure (it won an Academy Award!), was shown to me. Yet it (and Back's 1987 The Man Who Planted Trees) are largely unknown in the anime space despite being a major inspiration to Isao Takahata. www.youtube.com/watch?v=taDu...
- 2.5 Dimensional Seduction might be the most impressive turnaround of a story I've ever read. It started as an cheap fanservice romcom, but turned into a genuine exploration of love. It took a flat story and gave it depth. 2D to 3D.
