Trócaire
We are Trócaire.
We work to tackle the underlying causes of poverty and injustice and respond to the crises they create.
Charity No. 20204842
- Trócaire's Sinéad Loughran spoke yesterday to Oireachtas Committee on the Strategic Gas Emergency Reserve Bill. This bill has the potential to greenlight a state-led €900m LNG terminal on the Shannon Estuary. From an environmental, human rights, and economic viewpoint, it is utterly reckless. 1/4
- 'LNG is far more polluting than any other fossil fuel that we have in our current system. The government can't go ahead with approving this bill.' As part of Stop Climate Chaos, we protested at the Dáil today as key pre-legislative meetings for the Strategic Gas Emergency Reserve Bill were held.
- The incoherence of introducing new fossil fuel infrastructure in the midst of a climate emergency cannot be understated. Thanks to @codohertynews.bsky.social for highlighting Minister Darragh O'Brien's plans to bypass planning regulations for this LNG terminal. www.irishtimes.com/environment/...
- A "trojan horse" that "punches a hole" in climate law - concerns over LNG proposal being raised at all-party committee hearings by @antaisce.bsky.social @trocaire.bsky.social @foeireland.bsky.social among others www.irishtimes.com/environment/...
- 'When Europe Maalim disembarked a United Nations Humanitarian Air Service (UNHAS) flight in Buurdhuubo, a remote town in south-western Somalia, she and her team from Irish international NGO Trócaire were the first humanitarian workers to be seen in months.' www.trocaire.org/news/when-ev...
- We all wish the Irish government had passed the Occupied Territories Bill years ago, but we must not stop pushing them to ensure it's passed ASAP! It is too late for many, but the Irish government must act before it is too late for all. Passing the OTB can still have a meaningful impact.
- Minister for Environment Darragh O'Brien is attempting to rush through approval for a €900 million LNG reserve at the cost of the taxpayer & the planet. The proposed legislation would give the Minister full responsibility for the planning application & completely change the normal planning process.
- The West Bank violence has the same intentions as the Gaza genocide. Trócaire's Seán Farrell has been visiting villages, seeing how Israeli settlers are driving Palestinians off their land. These settlements are illegal. Trading with them is wrong. Ireland must pass the Occupied Territories Bill!
- 📻 Trócaire CEO Seán Farrell will be on The Hard Shoulder on Newstalk at 6pm, talking about his recent trip to the West Bank, seeing firsthand the impact of the illegal Israeli settlements and violence on Palestinian communities. Be sure to tune in: www.newstalk.com/shows/the-ha...
- 'We have started to work the land again & can take care of her school fees. I'd like to pass that gratitude on' - Julio, Miriam & Julio Jr's dad This International Day of Education, look at how your support of last year's Trócaire Box campaign has changed Miriam & Julio's lives in Guatemala 🇬🇹
- The future of Gaza must be determined by the Palestinian people, for the Palestinian people. Trump's Board of Peace will not deliver peace. We must never stop doing all we can for real, meaningful peace and real, meaningful justice for the Palestinian, and other oppressed people, around the world💪
- "Civilians continue to bear the brunt - indiscriminate attacks, targeting civilian infrastructure, widespread sexual violence. In Sudan, over 33m people will need humanitarian assistance in 2026." Trócaire's Birke Herzbruch at Oireachtas Committee on war in Sudan: www.oireachtas.ie/en/oireachta...
- Seán Farrell is in the West Bank seeing how Israeli settlers are using ever-increasing violence and intimidation to force Palestinian people off their land. This is what illegal occupation looks like. We must oppose this occupation and keep supporting these communities in their fight for justice.
- 1,000 days of brutal civil war in Sudan has led to the world's worst humanitarian crisis. Don't stop talking about Sudan. Don't stop sharing. We must keep all eyes on Sudan. At Trócaire, we are doing all we can to reach as many people as possible who desperately need support.
- In a time where global aid cuts are on the rise, Trócaire & our local Ukrainian partners are very grateful for Irish Aid's continued support of our life-saving & life-changing work. Many thanks to Irish Aid for providing Trócaire with €1 million to continue our vital humanitarian work in Ukraine.
- 'Some say young people are not as interested in global issues...' Trócaire CEO Seán Farrell was blown away by the ingenuity, creativity & commitment of young people from around the country at last week's Young Scientist & Technology Exhibition. The next generation are leading the way!
- 🛑Did you know that the Irish government is trying to bring in legislation to ratify the #ISDS pillar of the #CETA trade deal that would allow for big corporations to sue Ireland in investor courts for huge sums of money? - Ireland is dangerously off track on its climate targets, facing fines of €26 billion. An Coimisiún Pleanála are currently considering a planning application for a commercial LNG terminal in north Kerry. The potential consequences are stark. 👉Learn what's at stake: www.trocaire.org/news/climate...
- An Coimisiún Pleanála's decision for a commercial Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) terminal at Tarbert, north Kerry is due by January 13th. If approved, this would be absolutely devastating for Ireland's climate and human rights obligations - let us explain why ⬇️

- Did you know that the Irish government is trying to bring in legislation to ratify the #ISDS pillar of the #CETA trade deal that would allow for big corporations to sue Ireland in investor courts for huge sums of money? 1/2
- ⚖️Human rights are universal, unconditional and non-negotiable This Human Rights Day, and everyday, we won't stop challenging injustice and defending human rights around the world through national and international courts, campaigns, protests and persistence.
- #CSDDD Political agreement announced 👉NO obligations for big companies to take action to reduce emissions 👉NO reduction of barriers to accessing justice for victims & communities 👉NO strong incentives to prevent human rights abuses Ireland agreed to the deal with little thought to its consequences
- As Minister Peter Burke heads to the final #CSDDD trilogue negotiation, @irishtimes.com has published shocking revelations on the corporate campaign to lobby for EU deregulation, undermine democracy and weaken vital protections for people and the planet: www.irishtimes.com/world/europe...
- The internal records revealed “a co-ordinated, transnational campaign to reshape legislation in secret, undermining environmental protection, workers’ rights and democratic accountability”. Trócaire is calling on Minister Burke to side with people and planet, not with the corporate lobbyists.
- 'Minister Peter Burke, you can take the side of the corporate lobby, increase corporate profits, increase pollution, increase human rights abuses or you can take the side of affected communities, workers & the environment.' Ireland must stand against human rights abuses & environmental destruction!
- Incredible atmosphere at last night's Gaza fundraiser at Leinster House. We are deeply grateful to Marty Morrissey, Celine Byrne, Jack Lukeman, Mairead Carroll and John McColgan for their songs and stories. - ⚠️It takes 1 minute to speak up for the people of Palestine - ow.ly/z7CJ50Xz1lk New Minister, Same Problem – a government dragging its heels on the Occupied Territories Bill. Let your TDs know you want action. Urge them to put pressure on Minister McEntee to #PasstheOTB, including services NOW!
- The dismantling of the #CSDDD is an insult to at-risk communities, workers, indigenous peoples and human rights defenders all over the world. Minister Peter Burke, ensure that human rights and the environment are put back on the table NOW, instead of prioritising corporate profits!
