- Trying out Seattle’s Link light rail system today! Feels kind of like Metro and the future Maryland Purple Line had a child together - it runs on overhead wires like light rail, but so far feels & moves more like Metrorail than a light rail train. #wmata #LinkJan 30, 2026 19:14
- I’ve had a few issues - one is unlike Metro, you can’t use a credit card to ride, & it wasn’t obvious where the pay stations were. I asked a couple riders who helped me. However, local news said pay by credit card is coming soon, in time for World Cup games in Seattle this year.
- Also I went the wrong way! Having never been here before I assumed downtown meant downtown Seattle & Federal Way was a neighborhood, but apparently it’s a separate place at the south end of the line! My fault, but it would help if they had north/south directions like #wmata is implementing.
- Now the Link is running between lanes of traffic on Martin Luther King Jr Way. It has transit signal priority, we are not having to stop at red lights.
- I don’t think I’ve ever seen a city with so many different types of transit. There are buses that run using overhead wires…
- … buses that run without using overhead wires…
- …and even a streetcar. #Seattle
