They also banned same-day registration during early voting, and perhaps most critically, restricted Sunday voting. Sundays were the biggest early voting days for many minorities, through programs like “Souls to the Polls” that offered rides to the polling places, which is why they shut it down.
When you say “most states” you might note those are largely not swing states. The GOP has worked very hard to make voting hard in swing states, because when people are able to vote, they lose.
