- Corporate needs you to find the differences between these two pictures:
- I quote posted this from Preach's tweet, but I think we need to admit that we don't live in an era where MMOs are competing for each other anymore. The genre has been established and codified. The "WoW-killers" have come and gone, and the recent contenders all fell on their own swords.
- Same thing happened to FPS and MOBAs, its happening to Hero and Extraction shooters. It's all about finding a niche now. Its far easier to find a little sweet spot and focus on refining that experience with long term support. Make it smaller, cheaper, and provide something the bigger games can't.
- I'll also say that JSH is partially correct too, that a subset of people are chasing the social aspect the same way people chase wanting to be part of alphas and betas; the "I got here first and got the free t-shirt" type. but it's not the core issue. www.youtube.com/watch?v=miMe...

View full threadAnd what I mean by that is people need to get used to potentially new MMOs being less about graphics, less about being flashy and expensive looking AAA stuff. And unfortunately that's a hard bridge to sell, even while Runescape still exists.
- New Mutilators... don't they look a little familiar? Cool thing I noticed with these guys they share a hybrid design; you can find bits of terminators, centurions, even some parts look reminiscent of saturnine terminators. Glad to have the W I D E boys back. #warhammer
- So this little piece as I was trying to fit it in popped out, spun in the air and bounced off my work desk to god knows where. I'm gonna do it for real this time Literally every other mini in the wardens box came together perfectly fine but I guess God decided 'nah m8' with Gaius specifically.
- Kinda glad I didn't get into for Ashes of Creation. The more I read about it closing, the more I'm not surprised. I've been sceptical of kickstarter MMOs for a long time. This genre is far too costly and risky to make rn, hell you can't even trust the people making them anymore.
- It's another important reminder to always ALWAYS research the people you are financially backing. Don't just take their word for it, and especially don't fall for the marketing hype. I swear the MMO genre has more scams than releases with how many times this keeps happening.
- Like, even the ghostcrawler MMO didn't even have the basic bedrock of a game finished but swore up and down that 'we have all this data ready to use!', and it was just fortnite destiny. It's just frustrating that this genre feels like the ppl trying to make them genuinely don't know how to anymore.
- It's always feature creep, promising too much, overhype, over-spending, lack of funding, mismanagement, not understanding the scope of an MMO, straight up money laundering scams to even incompetence (microslop)... It's sad, but I can't really feel much when I've seen it so many times already.
