- Kerri Abatti was killed in her Arizona home after leaving her 31-year marriage to an influential farmer. She sought refuge in the mountain town where her ancestors settled in the 1880s. "She came back because this was the center of her universe." @susrust.bsky.social www.latimes.com/california/s...
- This was a story I knew straight off would be difficult to write. Emotions run high in discussions about wild horses, and it's no different with those roaming California's Eastern Sierra. It's not hard to understand why. The horses are captivating, with their quiet strength and ethereal beauty.

- Which one should I munch on, the blue or red snack? 😋 A Southern Right Whale, estimated to be around 18 meters long and weighing 80 tons, caught on camera. Stunning. These whales are relatively harmless and they are known to interact with humans. Amazing creatures. #southernrightwhale #sealife

- I talked to @susrust.bsky.social @latimes.com about the USDA compensation program for dairies with H5N1-infected herds. There has never been enough of an investment in containment. Compensation without support to change practices will not end the outbreak of moo flu. www.latimes.com/science/stor...

- I'd just like to point out how weird it is that places with hundreds or even thousands of reporters — the NYT, WaPo, CBS, NBC, AP, etc. — are all getting pummeled on every major story by the dozen computerboys at Wired. To fumble the bag this consistently is, at some point, cowardice and a choice.

- Wow! The pediatric death toll for the 2024-25 flu season keeps climbing. #CDC was informed of +3 deaths last week; they occurred between early Feb & mid April. The total is now 253 pediatric deaths (& more reports could still come). 90% of these kids weren't vaxed. www.cdc.gov/fluview/surv...

- OK, this is wild. In September 2023, geophysicists across the world started monitoring a very odd signal coming from the ground under them. It was picked up in the Arctic. And Antarctica. It was detected everywhere, every 90 seconds, as regular as a metronome, for *nine days*. What the HELL? 1/

- ...it concluded since the landslide was triggered by the melting glacier, and since *that* happened due to rising global temperatures... This was a signal - and a warning - from our rapidly changing world, heard in every single part of it. Best we listen up. www.science.org/doi/10.1126/... 10/
