- I find it clarifying to rethink of "polarization" as "Does either party support civil rights for Black Americans?" Polarization has historically been highest when one party does and lowest when neither did. The party that supports equal rights in a democracy isn't the one that's obligated to change
- We need less research framing the problem facing our country as "polarization" and more research framing the problem as "anti-democratic radicalization".
