- Great thread. As a DC resident, I couldn’t agree more. I wish I had the power to dump on Ohio, West Virginia, Tennessee et al. as much as those states have dumped on me via their National Guard deployments. Also hope the wealth tax in CA passes.
- Browsing on Bsky usually raises my blood pressure. But so does thinking about the current horror show that we all live in. So while I don’t see Bsky ever becoming a nation-wide, let alone a global social network, I give it credit for being an accurate barometer of the times as they actually exist.

- Two years ago, I would have scoffed at this post, now I nod along. I certainly don’t think the left has all of the answers - very far from it - but that video of Tim Cook openly bribing Trump in the Oval Office is the “Wealth of Nations” for our time.

- Yeah, I just subscribed. Realistically, it will be decades, if ever, before outlets like the Bulwark can replicate the scale and competency of the NYT, Post and Journal. But I hope that in 2100 there are globally great publications which originated in the resistance media ecosystem.

- Yep, I’m not an active NFL fan for standard reasons, but I grew up in Massachusetts and that game was incredible.
- As usual, a fun speculative exercise. Personally, I think the Democratic Party will be better at resisting American fascism than the Rebellion was at resisting the Empire/First Order/Final Order because it depends more on institutional appeal, and less on individual heroics.
- In 2020, I thought “Defund the Police” was the dumbest policy idea ever. In 2025/6, I think it’s the default position. The military, National Guard, and law enforcement have behaved abominably over the past 13 months. The onus is on them to rebuild trust, and it’s probably a lost cause.
- Speculative Thread (1/6): Yglesias Doctrine and Dem’s, a two branch assessment: 1. Moderation in general. 2. Abandoning progressive commitments. Dem’s have embraced 1, while rejecting 2, and I think this has been an effective combination. www.axios.com/2026/01/29/g...
- Kind of funny that the biggest percentage shifts here are among Democrats, going from rock bottom to soil level.

- I’ll say this much for “Melania”; the story of high profile maga women like Melania and Usha is just as important, and perhaps more important, than the stories of their husbands. Women legitimize movements in a way that men don’t, so understanding maga women is a vital cultural enterprise.

- In art-history terms, a narrow majority of Americans are abstract fascists, and they elected Trump in 2024. But only a large minority are realistic fascists who continue to support trump in 2026.

- I like the emphasis on building new cultural narratives, because while many people object to the violence of Republican immigration policies, they may like the fact that immigration has plummeted under Trump; also, without better storytelling, the lawless killings may get the Jan 6th treatment.

- Reposted by Sean KelleherIt’s cold comfort right now but, if past is prologue, spectacles of violence committed by the state against sympathetic civilians—especially when captured on camera—were the beginning of the end for Bull Connor and Jim Crow, too.
- This is why I’m a Democrat. The left isn’t pretty, but no leading Republican politician would ever post this.

- I’m not saying that the left in general, or the Democratic Party in particular has all of the answers; but, my god, they understands the problems with the other side with shocking clarity. In 2020, I thought defund the police was the dumbest policy idea ever; today, it’s common sense.

- Jan 2026 America is a much sunnier place than Jan 25 America. No room for complacency, but it really does feel like a different world compared to the doldrums of last winter.
- A reminder that politics is never pure. I’d love to see a blue wave this year, but if it brings Nazi tattoos into the Senate it will be exceptionally bittersweet.

- Excellent thread, which prompted some thought of my own. This thread has three parts: 1. Everything everywhere all at once. 2. Collective abandonment of public responsibility has created a great age of elite impunity. 3. Does any of this matter?

- Reposted by Sean KelleherI refuse to support a funding bill that fails to address the Republican health care crisis. And make health insurance affordable. The American people clearly understand the stakes and the urgency. We must too. I'm voting no.
- Reposted by Sean KelleherLowering costs is the top priority for the American people. I voted against this budget bill because it does not prevent health insurance premiums from doubling for so many Americans. The President and Congressional Republicans should have come to the table to work with us to lower these costs.
- Reposted by Sean KelleherI will not support a deal that does nothing to make health care more affordable. We are in a health care emergency. A simple one-year extension of these tax credits would cost less than Donald Trump’s $40 billion bailout for Argentina. A vote for this bill is a mistake.
- Reposted by Sean KelleherThis is not a deal — it's an empty promise. Trump and his Republican Congress are making healthcare more expensive for the middle class and ending it for working families. Time for Democrats to stand tall for affordable healthcare. www.politico.com/news/2025/11...
