I don't think folks here realize just how deeply invested most companies are in AI these days. Example: You're on the phone with a hospital's scheduler talking to a human. Your entire conversation is running through ChatGPT as it transcribes audio, suggests help to the rep, and analyzes your issue.
And this is like, AI use 101, the most basic use. The agent talking to you may have been told that AI is being used to support them, but they don't really know what's happening with it behind the scene. They just know that sometimes helpful articles pop up while they're talking to you.
It's really important to recognize that asking ChatGPT to summarize a current news issue is FAR from the biggest use of these tools and absolutely not even touching the surface of the privacy violations and environmental impact brought by the bigger, robust use cases of large companies.
Aug 16, 2025 17:30Right now it's super important to 1) understand that these tools are NOT going away, 2) learn the basics of how they work, 3) learn how to be the one in control of them (IT or policy-wise), and 4) get yourself more involved politically to help regulate them or guide regulation.
Confront that fear!
